Pick Your No's - Refusal Skills Initiative
Johnston Prevention implemented the Pick Your No’s initiative at Ferri Middle School in June. An important way to teach students how to refuse substances and other difficult situations.
Escape the Vape!
Students at Ferri Middle School participated in the Escape the Vape at the holiday dance on December 9th!
The vaping prevention themed escape room is a unique method to help educate students, teachers, parents, and others about vaping: an escape room.
Escape the Vape puts players in real-life escape game where they must work together in a race against the clock to solve a series of puzzles. Be prepared to have your wits tested and your entertainment level raised when you try to escape – and you will learn some interesting facts about vaping along the way!

It was a great day at the Apple Festival on 9/10/22! We met a lot of parents and youth and handed out a ton of materials!
Centredale Village Festival North Providence
From 9/9 through 9/11, the North Providence Prevention Coalition handed out resources and met families from North Providence at the 2nd annual Village Festival

Mental Health First Aid at RIC
RA’s at Rhode Island College were trained in Mental Health First Aid thanks to funding from the Partnerships for Success grant!
Rhode Island College First-Year Student Orientations
SPC’s Partnerships for Success grant staff are welcoming first-year students and their parents to campus this summer!
Parents receive handbooks for talking to their college students about alcohol before coming to college.
Students receive first aide kits with some alcohol norming on them as well as coping cards. Of course a lot of other resources as well!
We will be at all orientations this summer!
Law Enforcement Training: Fake ID Trends and Detection Methods
Officers from all of our SPC towns attended a 4 hour training by Mark Baxter to learn about identifying Fake ID’s which have become very sophisticated over the years
Fall Festivals
It was wonderful to see so many people out and about enjoying the Fall weather and the community events in Johnston and North Providence. Resources were handed out to parents and community members throughout the month of September at these events.
